Is it legal? Regulation explained

How regulated exchanges, decentralized protocols and play-money sites differ — and what that means for your funds.

Regulated exchanges

A CFTC-regulated venue operates under federal oversight, with segregated client funds and audited processes. This is the strongest protection available, but availability is geographically limited.

Decentralized protocols

On-chain venues are non-custodial — your funds sit in audited smart contracts, not with a company. There’s no regulator to appeal to, so contract risk and local legality are yours to assess.

Know your region

Access and legality vary by country and, in the US, by state. We surface availability on every platform card, but the final responsibility is yours.
